CONSULTATIONS ON DARFUR

The purpose of the Darfur Consultations is to identify measures that can contribute to stopping genocide in the Darfur region of Sudan. The consultations hope to bring together academics and activists from various disciplines to discuss and prescribe intervention measures. Ultimately, these measures will be presented to relevant persons and authorities, with the hope that they will apply recommendations generated through the consultations.

The first consultation took place on February 17th, 2006. It featured Ambassador
Jendayi Frazer, Assistant Secretary for African Affairs, US Department of State. ATA is currently organizing similar consultations in Washington, D.C, Kenya, and Nigeria. The Kenya and Nigeria Consultations are pursued in partnership with the
Ford Foundation and the Open Society and Justice Initiative.

The Nigeria Consultation was held December 11-12 in Abuja. The Kenya Consultation will be held June 9-10 in Nairobi. The Washington, D.C. consultation will take place after the Kenya Consultation, at the Woodrow Wilson Institute. Dates TBA.
